We want all musicians to love the gear they get from Musician’s Friend. That’s why we offer a 45-day return policy on most products we sell. We understand that sometimes an instrument or piece of equipment just doesn’t fit your needs the way you hoped. That’s ok! Send it back to us within 45 days and we’ll happily accept the return and refund your money.

What Can Be Returned?

Most products sold on Musician’s Friend can be returned within 45 days of the original ship date. There are just a few exceptions:

As long as the product is unused and includes all original packaging and materials, you can return it to us for a prompt refund. We simply ask that you return the merchandise in salable condition so that we can pass it on to another aspiring musician who will continue appreciating it for years to come.

How the Return Process Works

Returning an item to Musician’s Friend is simple. Just follow these steps:

  1. Contact our returns department within 45 days of the original ship date. You can reach us via phone, email, or live online chat. Let us know which product(s) you need to return and the reason why.
  2. Repackage the product carefully in its original box and packing materials. This protects the item from damage while in transit back to our warehouse.
  3. Print and include our prepaid return label. Once you’ve notified us that you need to make a return, we’ll email you a link to generate a UPS or FedEx prepaid label. Affix this securely to the box. Removing labels or marking on boxes can delay processing the return!
  4. Drop off the box at any location of that shipping carrier. There’s no cost to you to ship it back.

Once we receive and inspect your returned merchandise, we process your refund. Most refunds post to your original form of payment within 7-10 business days. Refund timing depends on your financial institution’s policies.


In some cases, you may decide you want to exchange your Musician’s Friend purchase for something different instead of requesting a standard return. We’re happy to accommodate exchanges as well.

To make an exchange:

  1. Contact us within 45 days of the original ship date. Specify which product you want to exchange and what you’d like instead.
  2. Repackage the original item carefully and attach the provided return label.
  3. We process a refund for the first purchase once the return is received at our warehouse.
  4. Simultaneously, we ship out the replacement item you requested.

You pay only for any difference in price between the two items. If your exchange results in a higher purchase amount, we charge your original form of payment on file.

Return Exceptions and Guidelines

While we try to maintain a lenient return policy, there are certain rules that apply regarding condition of merchandise and timing. Please note the following guidelines to avoid issues processing your return:

We reserve the right to refuse a return we deem is in unsalable condition. Always keep your original packaging materials like custom foam inserts for guitars, keyboards, and other instruments. If products are returned without protective foam parts, this can constitute damage and make the item non-returnable per our policy.

Refund Details

If your return meets our guidelines, we issue a prompt refund once inspected at our warehouse. Here is how refunds are processed:

Refunds only include the paid cost of merchandise. Original shipping fees are non-refundable because you received that service already. Return shipping back to our warehouse is covered by the prepaid label we provide.

Certain items like drum heads, drum sticks, strings, tubes, and other consumables are classified as non-returnable under our policy because they degradation during use. We cannot resell used consumables. If you have an issue with the playability or compatibility of a consumable item, contact us immediately during your 45 day window for assistance resolving the problem faster.

Return Fraud & Abuse
